1. I rarely post about my day job at
on here, but a new ACM website - the first in ten years! - is worth celebrating. It’s been a right old mission, but I’m proud of our team for their work on this. Click this link to have a gander2. Ta-Nehisi Coates on Israel/Gaza is compelling stuff. Watch it above.
3. Congratulations to my friend Jeffrey Bowman on the launch of his new venture OTSDR. Find out more here.
4. Inspired by the real-time impact of climate change of his French Alpine environment and community, my friend Gavin Fergie-Jones has been working hard on his Re-Action project for a few years now. Find out more here, and read this really interesting conversation with Gavin here. We’ll be discussing these themes and more for a future episode of the podcast, so stay tuned.
5. Related. I’ve never understood why so much of the language around climate activism is so weird and impenetrable, full of jargon such as ‘futuring processes’, (something I was asked to take part in via LinkedIn recently; answers on a postcard, anyone?), ‘imagination activism’ and ‘cosmolocalism’.
So I found myself agreeing with much of this piece by John Brown (warning: also a LI link)
6. Timeline cleanser - a lovely short doc with Devon Howard.
7. Congratulations to friend-of-the-show Naomi Mellor for the success of this year’s International Women’s Podcast Awards. Another friend-of-the-show Francesca Turauskis has a brilliant wrap-up over at Pod Bible. Read it here.
8. ‘Does this make me want to go snowboarding?’ is about the only question I have when watching a new snow film. The answer when watching my pal Alex Yoder’s new film for Gentemstick is: oh yes.
9. The new Trash Free Trails State of our Trails report is out and is essential reading. Click here.
10. In an age of misinformation and public mistrust, does it matter that POW used the wrong image during their recent campaign against FIS, and then doubled down rather than overtly acknowledging the mistake? Or do the ends justify the means?
These are all legitimate and interesting questions, so fair play to the host (I can’t remember his name) of this podcast asking for putting them to POW founder Jeremy Jones during their recent chat on the GEAR: 30 podcast. (Calum McIntyre also asked Jeremy a similar question on last week’s Open Thread, which you can catch up on here).
Got a story or link you think might work for my weekly Ten Things, which goes out to many thousands of readers each week? Let me know! Enjoyed this dispatch?
