1. My recent interview with Finisterre founder Tom Kay has been one of this year’s most popular episodes. And this great written interview with TK by my
pal and colleague Chris Sayer is a great companion piece. Read it below:2. I thought the Tour de France documentary on Netflix was brilliant and watched the lot in about three days. Check the trailer above.
3. My thanks to friend-of-the-show Rebecca Olive for introducing me to the rather brilliant-looking Great Ocean Quarterly magazine, which explores ‘art, ideas and the sea’ in a sumptuous looking package. They’re taking pre-orders - find out more here.
4. This is great from Dave Rastovich.
5. Skating in the Natural History Museum? Why not?
6. There are some truly inspiring collaborations going in among the UK’s cold water women right now. The latest to catch my eye is this Yonder and Daughters of the Sea film night taking place in Swansea in early August. Find out more and book tickets here.
7. More UK skate good stuff - going to be interesting to see how this develops. Click the link above to give it some love.
8. More news from the nascent British podcasting industry - the launch of the Independent Podcast Awards.
9. A all-female freeride snowboard movie that ‘delves into the female menstrual cycle and the transformative power of living in tune with it’? Now THAT is an angle on snowboarding I can get behind.
New project Cycles ‘portrays the four phases of the menstrual or lunar cycle. Its aim is to raise awareness among viewers about their own inner phases and provide a platform for the still-taboo topic of the female cycle’.
Film-maker Jo Brunner just launched a GoFundMe to raise post-production funds for this intriguing-sounding project. Find out more and support the project here.
10. In my next episode with Gilly Macarthur we chatted a bit about our shared love of The Smiths, and the old ‘can you separate the art from the artist?’ debate, given how much of a plonker Morrissey is these days. Anyway, the entire chat inspired me to dust off this Smiths playlist to accompany the episode. (Or you could just watch Rick Astley and Blossoms doing There Is A Light That Never Goes Out at Glastonbury 😍)
