1. A quick follow up to my last post: click here to read my recent Mr Porter article with Ed Leigh in which we discussed his experience of parenting his teenaged son Oscar.
2. Had a few issues with the link to this film about ten years of Nelson’s Tour de test Valley when I posted it the other week. So I’m posting it again this week.
3. A couple of weeks ago I posted a New Yorker piece asking whether Michael Lewis had got ‘too close’ to Sam Bankman-Fried. Now the reviews of Going Infinite are in, and they’re aren’t pretty. Helen Lewis’s Atlantic review is pretty representative.
4. I’m a huge fan of the way Aaron and Nicholas steer Korua, so I loved this short about their recent collab between Album Surfboards and Korua Shapes. Watch it above.
5. The Shred Sleds take on all things snowboarding is so brilliant. Their next contest takes place at Tamworth Snowdome on Saturday 28th. Find out more on the post above and give ‘em a follow while you’re at it.
6. Another pro-athletes-are-now-juggling-their careers-and-parenthood film, this time from Arc’teryx, and focussing on friends-of-the-show The Hagens.
7. The Olympic organisers want to build a new judging tower at Teahupo’o - local surfers, led by Matahi Drollet, aren’t happy. More here.
8. Quite a story, this: Paddy Cosgrave, founder and CEO of Web Summit, resigns after his comments on Israel/Gaza attracted worldwide opprobrium and caused sponsors to pull out of the event. More here, and read his apology here.
9. I’m the official media partner at this year’s London Surf Film Festival! I’ll be there with my pals at Db, as we’ll be presenting Turning Tides, the film that won last year’s Db Fund (more here). I’ll also be doing some onstage interviews, running a workshop on storytelling and creativity, and a few other bits. More to come…
10. Finally…Jeremy Jones incoming!
Yep, the legendary snowboarder, activist, environmentalist, founder of POW and honcho of Jones Snowboards is my next Substack Open Thread guest!
Next week, Jeremy has generously agreed to answer any questions my Substack community has about his snowboarding career, activism, environmentalism, the climate emergency and anything else you can think of.
I’ll be posting this one on Monday am and Jeremy will be manning the answers on Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st October. Should have a pretty epic prize for best question by a paid subscriber as well….
Got a story or link you think might work for my weekly Ten Things, which goes out to many thousands of readers each week? Let me know! Enjoyed this dispatch?
