It reminds me of the themes I wanted to explore in The Announcement - this pernicious idea that extractive capitalism is some kind of inevitable part of the human condition, and that we evolved from shareholders lumbering around the prehistoric earth. When it reality, it’s always the result of decisions made by powerful humans. In this case, a product category being foisted upon everybody by Silicon Valley an extremely self-interested industry and group of people (and that’s being polite).
