1. Regular LS readers and listeners will know I’ve got a long-standing relationship with my pals at the London Surf Film Festival - so I’m hyped that they’ve asked me to get involved with this year’s event as media partner!
We’re still working out the details of what that actually means, but one thing I’m very chuffed to confirm is that our Db Fund winners Antoine and Eloise will be premiering their project at the festival!
If you’re not sure what I’m on about, get up to speed with the above blog. We’re six months into the mentoring programme and it’s been a really interesting experience for everybody’s involved. I’ll also be chatting to Eloise and Antoine on-stage at the festival about the project. How’s that for a deadline?
(As ever, if you have any ideas about my LSFF partnership, I’d love to hear ‘em. Especially if you’re a brand up for doing something creative and interesting).
2. Not long now until my pals Holly and Laura hold a series of live podcasts at the Wave in Bristol featuring some friends of the show. More details above; and click here to book your tickets (and enter OCEANWOMAN10) for a 10% discount for LS listeners and readers!
3. The Titan/Titanic story has obviously dominated the week and spawned a veritable tsunami (sorry) of hot takes. The most savage commentary was undoubtedly the orca/yacht/Titan meme crossover, but I also found this Washington Post piece offered an interesting perspective.
4. This interview with skate industry lifer Kevin Parrott is great on many levels, especially for the way it showcases the brilliant camaraderie of the UK skate scene.
5. Kai Lenny and Travis Rice in the AK backcountry is surprisingly entertaining. Watch the trailer above and the full episode here.
6. Dan Crockett is one of our most articulate and thoughtful ocean advocates, and this blog about his life in ocean awareness and activism is inspiring stuff.
7 Ross Edgeley is at it again - this time around he’s trying to set a new record for (deep breath) the Longest Unassisted Non-Stop Open Water Swim in history. Find out more above.
8. Interesting and important stuff from Alannah Yip - and how refreshing to see somebody use their profile to kickstart such an important debate.
9. Just surfer, activist and two-time LS guest Lucy Small out here doing the Lord’s work. Find out more above, and listen to Lucy on the chatting to Shannon and Rachael about this on The Double Up podcast here.
10. OK, so this is a Guardian Politics podcast about a local by-election in Frome. But it’s worth listening to for the interview with Lib Dem candidate Sarah Dyke who, to put it politely, had an absolute shocker, and which reveals much about the state of our political candidature in this country. (Spoiler alert: she sounds like she’d have trouble running a bath).
Point ten has got to be the synopsis of our political system. Absolute chancers. Laughable yet frightening at the same time
