80’s foam headphones applied. Tape rewound with a pencil. Walkman clicked shut. Press play. Must be 10 yrs old ‘in my room’ with the Beach Boys.
Although I fell for the harmonies all that time ago, I still prefer the solo version of surfs up with Brian at the piano, that song being a sort of doorway into a new era for the band, I guess. Seems kinda haunting now
Can't seem to register my vote to see DLT play Macbeth, but sweet Jesus the first few minutes of that podcast are way too near the knuckle. Would I have picked that it wasn't two humans if you hadn't said so before hand? I'd like to think there's enough uncanny valley instinct in my brain to recognise AI generated speech, but I don't know that I would have. I'm all for AI use to solve real problems, and to increase accessibility, but this is neither of those things. There's quite enough unlistenable human gibberish already, so this kind of deliberate fakery is a nasty, profoundly inhumane development and we should burn it with fire.
Some people have voted yes….and I was chatting to a friend yesterday who said they’ve experimented with this in the workplace to help their team digest tricky topics in a more palatable way.
But the word ‘human’ is key here, I think, and the most interesting aspect of the entire AI debate - what if the human bit actually ISN’T none-negotiable, and people just don’t care? This type of thing, people using ChatGPT as a therapist etc etc - maybe people will just decide they’re completely happy with this. For me that’s the crux of, and the most interesting part about, the entire AI debate. Alex Roddie has much interesting stuff to say about this in the piece of his I shared today

I’d actually never heard that, thank you ❤️
I like the workings out of the Smile Sessions
