I’ve already had some really interesting feedback from my reader/listener survey. Click the button below to take part, and help me shape the future of Looking Sideways:
3. The Finisterre x London Surf Film Festival Women of the Sea Film Fund competition is back. This is a really brilliant initiative - find out more here.
4. Podcast 1: my pal Sam Haddad is this week’s guest on the excellent Board Women podcast.
5. Podcast 2: George Monbiot on Adam Buxton is a brilliant, challenging conversation.
6. One of the most interesting things about working on The Announcement, the podcast documentary I am making about Yvon Chouinard’s decision to give away Patagonia, has been how the themes have revealed themselves as the project has progressed.
And one key theme that has emerged is the idea of ‘retooling’ capitalism to fight the climate crisis, in the context of the ongoing (by which I mean at least 50 years) ‘business for good’ conversation.
All of which explains why I found the way Hiut Denim are framing their forthcoming funding round as a ‘no-growth’ business model, as per their latest marketing deck, such an interesting idea.
Find out more here (warning: LinkedIn link).
7. POW take on the notion of ‘imperfect advocacy’ with new film The Hypocrite. I wasn’t really buying this tbh. Anybody else seen it?
8. My pals at Slash just launched their latest art drop collab. More above, and here.
9. Friend-of-the-show Sam Moody shot a new short about Baltic surfer Freddie Meadows for Wasted Talent, and it’s worth a gander.
10. Finally - ICYMI, I’m running a contest for my paid subscribers - find out more on the post above.
Thanks so much for supporting Looking Sideways! It’s so appreciated. To say thanks, click the link below to get 20% off a paid subscription - forever!
The Hypocrite needed a clearer POV, it felt a bit muddled, and oversimplified, like "I shouldn't feel guilty for riding a snowmobile because I'm politically active..." BUTTTT it did raise an interesting subject about the tension we're all feeling around being imperfect.
