Looking Sideways: 10 Things
This week: a march for clean water, the influence of Jeremy Klein, and 'why Britain has stagnated'.
1. Surfers Against Sewage are organising a huge March for Clean Water in London on October 26th. Find out more and sign up here.
2. Jeremy Klein on Epically Later’d is brilliant.
3. This Press Gazette story about Mill Media leaving Substack is really worth a read. The Manchester Mill in particular is one of the biggest success stories on here; it’ll be fascinating to see if any of the other big flagship Substacks follow suit.
4. If you’ve got a spare hour, this lengthy essay on ‘why Britain has stagnated’, is very worth a read. (Spoiler-alert - doesn’t appear to make one solitary reference to degrowth or sustainability).
5. Brighton Hotpipe surf contest incoming! Find out more at the post above, and if I’m around I’ll see ya there.

6. I make no apologies for sharing yet another beautiful Mikey February edit.
7. Kimmy Fasani has shared new details of her forthcoming Butterfly in a Blizzard documentary - more here.
8. I have been thoroughly enjoying The Offer, a fictional retelling of the making of The Godfather with Miles Teller and Juno Temple. Perfect easy autumnal viewing.
9. This Yeats poem was a new one on me, and I’ve been mulling it over all week. So I thought I’d share it here.
10. Finally, if you’re in London today (Friday 27th), then why not come along to the huge real snow rail jam my agency
has organised to celebrate the opening of Peak Performance’s new Covent Garden store? I know I’ve mentioned this a couple of times now, but we’re bringing seven tons of snow to the middle of London and it’s going to be a cracker. Come say hello for that beer! What did I miss? What did you think of this week’s list?
No. 3 - Wow! That’s really interesting.
That Jeremy Klein episode is so good 👌 undeniably one of the most creative, legit and influential characters in slate history!
